Somerset Life Cover Feature

I love Somerset even though I now live in Devon (which I also love!) so I was delighted to be asked to write the Autumn cover feature for Somerset Life Magazine (read the whole magazine online here for free). In this piece I share my secrets for a perfect Autumn in the county – from walks in the sunshine and fossil hunting to a trip around the solar system…

Journey of Discovery

Every so often I meet someone who floors me. Emily Monk, of Forage and Find Me is one of those people. I met her on a gloriously sunny day on Exmouth beach to find out about her funky eco jewellery, made from foraged materials. I soon discovered we weren’t going to spend the whole afternoon discussing making techniques and environmental impact, rather her mental health and how her new businesses literally saved her, following a suicide attempt. Her story is very poignant, especially for any women who may have suffered from Post Natal Depression. It wasn’t a happy story to tell but it has a strong ending with a bright future and it’s very real. My feature was published in the August Issue of Exeter Living magazine – you can read it below.

YOGA TORQUAY

I recently headed to Torquay’s newly opened yoga studio, Yoga Torquay, and met owner Alice Chapman, champion of yoga for women’s health. My piece explores Alice’s journey as a yoga teacher and why pregnancy and mother and baby yoga has become her speciality.

“The class we observe is a real joy – bouncing babies and happy mothers bonding but Alice admits sometimes the classes can be a little chaotic. “I used to feel daunted by that but I have the tricks in my toolbox now to stay calm and in control. Teaching yoga requires responsiveness and attention to your students, when you’re teaching mum’s and babies yoga, that’s the big league, you have to be super responsive to the mood and changing emotions of the mothers and the babies and react accordingly. It’s an awesome challenge and I love it,” she explains.”

You can read the full article, published in the Summer Issue of Devon Life magazine here.

Hanging around in style

I had my first feature published in Exeter Life last month, where I met an inspirational mother from Exeter who is championing luxe interiors that don’t cost the earth – have a read below. As a side note, I was thrilled to see my photograph of Faye breastfeeding her son while working was used as a whole page – fantastic that Exeter Living are doing their bit to help normalise breastfeeding.

Magical Toadstool Makes for LandLove Magazine

Who doesn’t love stumbling upon mushrooms on a woodland walk? In this six-page craft feature, for the September issue of LandLove magazine, I use the fabulous fungi as inspiration for colour crafts.

Tutorial in Reloved

I’m currently working on a series of tutorials for Reloved Magazine – The Creative Guide To Upcycling Your Home. The first of these pieces, a tutorial on transforming lacklustre plant pots into little works of art with mosaic, has published in Issue 45.

Regular followers of my blog will know that making makes me happy, so it’s lovely to be working with Reloved. Hopefully I’ll manage to inspire others to get their craft on!

New Client: The Nail Room

I’m excited to share that I have a new Exeter-based client, The Nail Room. I’ve been working with the new boutique nail salon on their PR, marketing and social media strategies, since they opened earlier this year. I’ve enjoyed doing everything from generating media coverage and arranging press trips and competitions through to videography, photography and design work.
