Inspired Bride – Issue 2

Issue 2 of Inspired Bride hits the shops today. I had butterflies in my stomach when we sent Issue 1 of Inspired Bride to the printers last month and when I first saw it on the shelves of WH Smith!  I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by all the positivity surrounding Issue 1 – thank you to everyone who bought the first issue and all of you who took the time to reach out and tell me how much you loved it!

Here are some sample spreads:

Launching Inspired Bride magazine

Issue 1 of Inspired Bride magazine hits the shops today. This new national wedding magazine is being stocked in WH Smith and a selection of independent retailers, priced at £3.95, with an initial print run of 10,000. The idea for Inspired Bride came about when I was planning my own wedding back in 2013 – I found lots of creative loveliness online but what I really wanted was a monthly magazine (sorry internet, but you can’t compete with the tactile permanence of print) to accompany me on my planning journey – one that celebrated uniqueness, was brimming with creativity and ultimately inspired me to go the extra mile for my big day. Fast-forward two years and a leap of faith by local publisher One Media and here we are!

I’ve launched the whole magazine from scratched with Art Editor, Peter Frost and part-time sub editor, Sally Newell. It’s been a very heavy workload but I’m very proud of the magazine and it’s been a completely different experience heading up at launch within a small company, rather than an already successful, established publishing house.

Inspired Bride’s feature material is intelligent, our photoshoots are breathtaking, our DIY tutorials are unbelievably cool and the real weddings we select span pretty much every style you can imagine and are guaranteed to wow. The magazine, which carries the strapline of ‘for weddings less ordinary’ is all about sparking readers’ creativity and  leaving them feeling energized and ready to enjoy their planning.

Designers reveal their bridal styling secrets: Published in Perfect Wedding magazine

For the November 2012 issue of Perfect Wedding magazine I’ve compiled a 7-page fashion feature, speaking to the UK’s top bridal designers, who show readers how to create the key looks for 2013. It’s all in there – from Suzanne Neville‘s dramatic modern look through to Stephanie Allin‘s classically cut ‘Loren dress’. My favourite? Ian Stuart‘s fifties belle look complete with his fabulously retro ‘Cadillac’ gown. Perfect Wedding issue 74 is in the shops now.

Crowning Glory: A guide to bridal headpieces

From decadent and daring forehead bands to ethereal flower crowns, headpieces make an exciting addition to your wedding gown. So, in this feature written for WED magazine, I explore all the different headpieces available to the modern bride and give advice on choosing something to fit your face shape too. Issue 21 marks the magazine’s fifth anniversary and is avaliable to buy here.

You’ll have to buy the magazine for my definitive guide to tiaras, flower crowns, garlands, fascinators, forehead bands, flapper bands, headbands and combs, but here’s my guide to choosing something to flatter:

Oval – Perfectly in proportion, oval faces are egg-shaped with forehead and jaw the same width.

Choose: Almost any style will look good on this perfect face shape.

Avoid: Heavy fringes and styles that push a lot of hair onto your face.

Round – Circular faces without height on top or a protruding chin.

Choose: Side partings and styles with height at the crown. Go for an up-do or half-up.

Avoid: Styles with fullness at the sides and fringes in general.

Oblong – High foreheads and long chins: oblong faces are longer than they are wide.

Choose: Wear you hair down, with fullness at the sides – waves and curls look great.

Avoid: Adding any extra height on top and center partings.

Heart – Although wide at the forehead, heart-shaped faces narrow to a point at the jawline.

Choose: Hair down, or half-up, with a side parting or gentle fringe.

Avoid: Height at the crown and severe up-dos.

Square – Angular looking faces with both a strong forehead and jawline.

Choose: Romantic waves and curls – wear your hair down or half-up. Consider a soft fringe.

Avoid: Polka straight hair and severe up-dos.

Wedding photography cover feature in Turning Pro magazine

A wedding is a special event for all involved, and children are no exception. In fact, when it comes to creating a wedding album packed full of candid and interesting recollections of the day, children often prove the most natural subjects. I spoke to three photographers: Kristian Leven, Georgi Mabee and Robert Lawler, and discovered various techniques to taking candid, natural shots of children at weddings which really capture the essence of the day. This 12-page feature has been published in this month’s (July 2011) Turning Pro magazine.
