Travel feature: Glamping on the Gower

You’d be hard pressed to find a person who loves Devon more than me. At weekends I’m more than happy exploring our coastal towns and beaches and walking the moors. Sometimes you just need to change it up though, right? I’d heard the Gower’s beaches were the best in Wales and I found a company with luxury Shepherds Huts overlooking Rhossili beach, so off I went… You can read about my glamping adventure on the Gower in this month’s One Magazine, or online here.

Organic Ale feature published in Devon Life magazine

I’m happy to have my feature ‘Brewing A Storm’ on The Exeter Brewery published in this month’s Devon Life magazine. It was an interesting piece to write and photograph   – I discovered that The Exeter Brewery’s organic real ale is so popular it’s exported to France via sail boat and rebranded for the Army!

10 Easy Ways to Hack Your Office Desk Job and Avoid Gaining Weight at Work

Offices don’t make you fat. The walls don’t secrete lipids, which you unknowingly absorb through your pores. Unless you work in sweatshop, you aren’t forbidden from moving around. It’s just difficult, with little need for movement in order to fulfil your role and the constant supply of indulgent treats. The answer? These hacks I wrote for Lifehacker can help you avoid gaining weight by sitting in the office…

An afternoon with ceramicist Laura Lane

DSC_2046

Having met Laura Lane at The Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey earlier this year – her distinctive granite look ceramics caught my eye straight away – I was looking forward to meeting up at her studio and finding out where her creativity comes from. In this feature, published in Cornwall Life magazine I find out – you can read the whole feature online here.

Walking a Llama across Dartmoor

This summer I’ve enjoyed being commissioned to write and photograph several walks in Devon. My dog, Poppy, has enjoyed all of them immensely, other than this one, which saw me walk a Llama across Dartmoor. One ticked off my quirky bucket list for sure!

Pet-friendly hotel guide for Best Western

Screen shot 2014-10-01 at 11.37.58I was commissioned by Best Western to write a holiday guide for dogs and their owners pinpointing the best hotels and holiday destinations in the UK to take our four legged friends. Poppy, my rescue pup, and I had a great time on our expedition around Great Britain, staying everywhere from a Scottish Lodge with sheep and cows for neighbours through to a grand Georgian mansion in beautiful Buxton. My guide features full, honest reviews of the hotels we visited, as well as a tips for safe and happy travels with your dog. If you’re determined to make your next adventure a dog-friendly one grab a cup of tea and be inspired by my guide, which you can read here.

To coincide with the launch of my guide last week, Best Western commissioned a survey of more than 1800 dog lovers, where over half said they plan their holidays around their four legged friend and one in seven said they opt to stay in a dog friendly hotel. Being chastised for having a dog is one of the great fears of most dog owners when on holiday with 40% saying that they avoid pubs and over 30% avoiding hotels because they felt their dog wouldn’t be welcome… Along with TV Vet Mark Evans I launched my guide and spoke about the survey finding to a number of different radio stations. A great experience!

A Cake Less Ordinary

Archant’s Pure Weddings 2015/16 has hit the shelves and I’m pleased it includes my feature on master cake maker, Emily Hankins. I was lucky enough to spend a day with Emily recently and try my hand at cake painting – it’s certainly a skill I’ll enjoy working on.
