Contributing to Miss Ivy’s Journal

photo 1I love independently published magazines, so I was really happy to contribute to the launch issue of Miss Ivy’s Journal, which is brought to you by Jo Macaskie of Miss Ivy Events. The magazine is being marketed as ‘Vintage Vision for modern Lives’ and does just that – providing vintage aficionados with a healthy does of fashion, culture and lifestyle pieces. Interview with street photographer Heather Buckley

My latest interview, published as part of my biweekly series for Autographer sees me interview inspirational street photographer Heather Buckley, who, despite the twist in genre has just been crowned Royal Horticultural Society Photographer of the Year 2014. Interview with photojournalist Lee Thompson

Feb 2014 sees me embark on a new bi-weekly photographic series for Autographer. My first instalment is an interview with photojournalist Lee Thompson, who was at the Winter Olympics in Sochi when I spoke to him. In this eye-opening interview Lee tells me about photographing the body of Colonel Gaddafi in a supermarket fridge, having his life threatened and feelings of guilt. He also gives some excellent tips for street photography. Read it here.

"A lady sitting on the foundations of her home destroyed by the tsunami in Japan. This lady was a lovely person. Despite losing her home, she said none of her family had been killed so she was lucky, but she feared so many of her friends were dead under the rubble. I joined the British search and rescue teams in Japan after the tsunami hit. What started out as rescue operation ended in body recovery: we found no survivors. Art meets furniture: Interview with Tom Rowan in Somerset Life magazine

The April issue of 247 Magazine, of which I am Editor, is out now and marks our 13th Birthday. We’re a little bigger than normal this month and no, it’s not last month’s Easter eggs – it’s our mammoth 24 page festival guide. You can’t beat a good festival with your mates and there’s lots of choice from free one-day events to full on raves and camping extravaganzas featuring some of the best artists in the world. Feb-2013-cover-211x300I’m so happy to have double Brit Award nominee, Paloma Faith, gracing the cover of 247 Magazine and can’t wait to see her live at Plymouth Pavilions later this month.

Read what the singer / songwriter had to say on her new album, personal lyrics and being a feminist inside the February issue, which you can read here. Of course we’ve got lots of homegrown talent  from  the South West of England crammed into the issue too – this month we introduce you to Panda, Plymouth based DJs with an Infectious nu-garage sound and Audible 1, aka Alex Norgate, who has a unique take on drum and bass. This month’s fashion pages also have a distinctive local flavor too, as all the clothes are designed and modeled by the South West’s Alice Vandy. We get our action sport fix from Somerset – in the form of fearless street rider, Sam Baskett, who can clear truly amazing gaps on his BMX. Enjoy these features, plus all our regular features including music reviews, food, club and gig listings. Whether you are shooting a Formula 1 racing car or a ballerina, getting creative with shutter speed will give your shots an edge. For this feature, commissioned by Photography Monthly magazine, I spoke to five high-profile pro photographers – Lara Jade, Matt Howell, Mark Gray, Michael Bosanko and Mark Pain – who all embrace the creative possibilities offered by shutter speed.
