Roller derby feature in Somerset Life magazine

The South West Angels of Terror (SWAT) Roller Derby Team is based in both Somerset and Devon is putting the South West on the map for all the right reasons. The sport hails  from America with it’s roots in roller skating endurance races dating back to 1884. These days it is played by around 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, with nearly half of these now outside of America. Dominated by all-female amateur teams, Roller Derby is now so popular that it was under consideration for the 2020 Olympics! In this feature for Somerset Life magazine I meet the team and even try my luck on skates…

Interview with Lucia Griggi: Surf & Ocean Photographer

To say that Lucia Griggi has an enviable lifestyle is a bit like saying Jimi Hendrix was ‘good’ at playing the guitar. Lucia’s made her dreams a reality, courtesy of good old hard work and determination. She relocated from Cornwall to California in 2010, but spends most of her year globetrotting – whilst photographing surfing, surf lifestyle and wildlife in some of the most beautiful locations around the world. Her client list includes Roxy, Vans, Red Bull, Land Rover and National Geographic, amongst others. Most impressively however, is the freshness and energy she brings to her photography; she has a genuinely rare talent for emerging the viewer in a picture, as if you were there with her. Read my interview interview with Lucia here, over at Autographer.

10 scariest photo opportunities around the world: A Halloween blog post for Autographer

To celebrate the spookiest night of the year, in this blog post, published by Autographer, I bring you ten truly terrifying places to visit (and photograph) if you dare. Guaranteed to be scarier than any trick-or-treater that’ll come knocking this Halloween!

Fotor01030114817
Isla de las Munecas (Island of the Dolls) lies just south of Mexico City and it’s genuinely more terrifying than any film set. Legend has it that the Island caretaker found a girl drowned in mysterious circumstances and nailed a doll he found to a tree, as a mark of respect. It’s said he became haunted by the girl’s spirit and hung more and more creepy dolls across the island in an attempt to please her. Severed limbs, decapitated heads and missing eyes galore.

It’s a scary world we live in – from ghost towns and a church decorated with human bones to walking the most dangerous road in the world and bungee jumping into a live volcano, it’s all going on in my blog post – read it here.

An ultimate list of human emotions captured in photographs

I enjoy looking at photographs as much as I enjoy taking them. I often find that the most beautiful images are often the ones capturing the strongest emotion. After all, human emotion is something we all experience every day of our lives. Here, in a blog post for Autographer, I bring you a selection of images that span from jumping for joy to despairing in humanity itself. Grab a cup of coffee and take a look at the images I’ve selected here – prepare to be moved.
