Helicopter crash simulators, 300ft cranes and pipes aplenty in the Caspian Sea. In this feature for Turning Pro magazine I talk to Stuart Conway about what it took to complete the commission for BP’s newly-operational oil and gas platforms.

A wedding is a special event for all involved, and children are no exception. In fact, when it comes to creating a wedding album packed full of candid and interesting recollections of the day, children often prove the most natural subjects. I spoke to three photographers: Kristian Leven, Georgi Mabee and Robert Lawler, and discovered various techniques to taking candid, natural shots of children at weddings which really capture the essence of the day. This 12-page feature has been published in this month’s (July 2011) Turning Pro magazine.
This month’s magazine features the awesome John Butler Trio, who are heading to Newquay this summer, as well as the multi-talented Ed Sheeran, who had to upgrade his first Cornwall show due to popular demand. Exeter folk may also recognise local favourites, The Computers, who are causing quite a stir across the region with their rock’n’roll antics and who have a new album out this month. Our fourth interview is with festival favourites Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. The June issue also sees the launch of our Action Sports section and photos from our 11th Birthday party in Plymouth. Good times! Read the magazine online here.
In this interview for Photography Monthly magazine (July issue – out now) I talk to one of the world’s leading underwater photographers, Stephen Frink, about his journey from a landlocked upbringing in Illinois to the Florida Keys, his lucky break, making a living and the secrets behind his underwater shots.

Last month’s £5,000 festival ticket giveaway was a hard act to follow, but 247 magazine readers are in for a treat this month too. This month also sees the launch a brand new food section where this month, we recommend our top spots for Al Fresco dining. Street Art is all about Upfest, out favourite live painting festival which takes place in Bristol at the beginning of June. On top of this you’ve got the usual fashion spread, Style Hunter shoot, Culture & Film, Live & Club listings. So grab a copy and head out to the park and enjoy the sunshine why don’t ya!
There’s been a shift in wedding photography recently, which sees photographers experimenting with composition, moving away from formal wedding shots to let their images tell a different story. For this feature, published in Turning Pro magazine, I spoke to four wedding photographers; Allister Freeman, Simon Gilbert, Helen Evans and Mark Carey, who are embracing this new style, taking their influences from contemporary art photography and reportage to see wedding photography in a new light.

A sniff of sunshine and we’ve gone festival mad this month. Our Ultimate Festival Guide equips you with info about the festival best offerings in the region and beyond, but we haven’t stopped there, we’ve secured a pair of tickets for almost all of our featured festivals to give away. See the online competitions page at www.247magazine.co.uk for more details. Should you fail to win tickets, we tell you how you can still do festivals for free – by volunteering. We also advise on how to avoid the ‘festival freaks’ that seem to appear when you least expect them… All this and the usual listings, fashion and street art makes for a bumper 48-page mag for your reading pleasure.
